Ride Rules

9th Annual Snipe Hunt Trail Ride & Hike of the Orlean Community Trail System

Interested riders are invited to join OCTS members in a 1.5 hour (approx.) ride through a great community trail.  A great way for you to see what our Club has to offer!  Details:

WHERE?

·        Turn into the long gravel driveway OPPOSITE 7047 Olinger Road and proceed approx. 300 yards to the open field

·        Park anywhere in the open field on reasonably level ground EXCEPT the area under repair, which will be roped off in advance

We have a limited number of spaces for four-horse trailers, so

IF you can, please use a smaller trailer.  But if a four-horse is all you have, that’s OK.

WHEN?  Saturday, April 12, 2014 (Rain Date is Sunday, April 13th)

The rides will depart promptly at 9:00 am, so you should arrive with enough time to park, tack up and mount by 8:30am.  Please be prompt.

We sincerely hope that all riders will come back for the PotLuck luncheon beginning at 1:30pm.  Riders are encouraged to bring their PotLuck contributions to the morning ride where they’ll be collected and refrigerated (if needed) for the luncheon later that day.

HOW LONG?  Riders will be divided into two groups or more.  We expect the rides to last approx. 1.5 hours.  This will allow riders plenty of time to get their horses home and for them to return for the PotLuck luncheon at 1:30pm.  We are not able to keep horses and trailers on the premises past 11am.

TRAIL: The vast majority is through open or wooded terrain, though certain brief segments are gravel-covered.  We will be going through some pastures of livestock where control of your horse is imperative – be sure before starting out that you and your horse can negotiate these environments under control.  The ride will be conducted at a walk and/or trot.  No galloping.

LEADERSHIP: OCTS members who are experienced trail riders will serve as leaders and outriders.  They are in charge – please follow their direction and instructions.

INCLEMENT WEATHER/TRAIL CONDITIONS:  If the weather or trail conditions are inclement and you are unsure whether the trail ride will go off, email OCTSsnipehunt@gmail.com on or after Friday afternoon,  April 13thto reach a Snipe Hunt BOD member on advising status.  This will only happen if the weather is uncertain.  We do have a rain date (following day) for this event.

CAN I BRING MY DOG? CAN I SMOKE?  No dogs nor smoking, however, please bring your own water.

THE HIKE:  Meet at 12:30pm (please be prompt) at Jimmy Hitt's Farm. New Member Jinx Fox will be bringing nature experts to lead an educational walk through the woods. The hike expected to last 1 to 1.5 hours.  Please bring your own water.

QUESTIONS? Please, email us at OCTSsnipehunt@gmail.com for questions about the ride. Check Facebook and our homepage for any weather related details!!
